Maximize Your Cottage Comfort: How the Home Renovation Savings Rebate Works

If you’ve been thinking about upgrading your cottage this year, there’s great news! The Home Renovation Savings program considers cottages as single detached homes, making them eligible for energy efficiency rebates. That means you can improve your cottage’s comfort, save on energy costs, and even earn extra rebates while doing it. Here’s how it works.

Why Upgrade Your Cottage’s Insulation?
Cottages are often exposed to harsh weather, which can make heating expensive and living spaces less comfortable. Upgrading insulation in your attic, walls, floors, or foundation helps retain heat in winter and keep things cooler in summer. Proper insulation also reduces drafts, saves on energy bills, and improves the overall comfort of your cottage.
With the Home Renovation Savings program, you can get rebates for a variety of energy-saving upgrades. If you bundle multiple upgrades, you can save even more!
How the Rebate Program Works
Start with a Home Energy AssessmentContact a registered energy advisor and they will visit your cottage to identify the best energy-saving upgrades. This assessment uncovers opportunities to improve insulation, air sealing, windows, and more. The assessment itself is eligible for a $600 rebate once the program is complete.
Bundle Upgrades for Bigger Savings After your assessment, you can choose at least two energy-saving upgrades to qualify for rebates:
Attic insulation: Up to $1,500
Foundation insulation: Up to $2,300
Exposed floor insulation: $300
Exterior wall insulation: Up to $3,600
Windows and doors: $100 per rough opening
Heat pump water heaters: $500
Air sealing: Up to $250
If you complete three upgrades, you could get an extra $500 rebate, a perfect way to maximize your savings.
Complete Your UpgradesContact Soundseals Insulation to install the insulation, for other energy-efficient upgrades recommended in your assessment contact your preferred service company.
Follow-Up Assessment After the work is done, your registered energy advisor will return for a follow-up assessment to ensure everything is done correctly. Once they submit all documentation, your rebate check should arrive by mail within 60 days.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the Home Renovation Savings program for your cottage:
You must own the property.
Eligible housing types include single detached homes, semi-detached homes, row/townhomes, and mobile homes on a permanent foundation.
You must either be an Enbridge Gas customer primarily heating with natural gas, or be connected to the Ontario electricity grid heating with electricity, propane, oil, or wood.
This makes cottages that are privately owned eligible for the program, giving cottage owners the same rebate opportunities as regular homes.
